Down a quiet side-street in Holloway is this elegant three-bedroom town house. The home masterfully balances oodles of decorative charm with a smart redesign that makes the space perfect for a modern family.

Travers Road, Finsbury Park, 3 Bed. House

All things bright and beautiful, this clean and classic three-bedroom house in Holloway has been remodelled to make the most of its myriad charms. The first floor opens onto a debonair double reception/dining room, bathed in light from the broad bay window. From there, it’s your choice: upstairs to two serene and storage-friendly double bedrooms and a single bedroom/home office in the crow’s nest, or downstairs to the sparkling eat-in kitchen and dining space. Here you’ll find a window seat and French doors leading out to the garden—a lush, green affair perfect for al fresco dining or all-in playtime.

Cleverly enough, there’s a full bath, a shower room and a WC spread out over the three main floors. Such a versatile layout means there’s room for everyone to work, relax or gather together, in both social and private spaces. There’s even a spare bedroom/home office at the top of the house, plus opportunity with plans and permissions in place, to expand into the loft to create room to grow.

The house is a quick jaunt to the cinema, shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs along Holloway Road and within strolling distance to glorious Upper Street, you’re never at a loss for things to see, do, eat or drink. If you crave a bit more green than the garden, Finsbury Park is walkable, too. And with quick Victoria Line service to Kings Cross in less than 20 minutes from the door, central London is within easy reach for the daily commute or a night out.

The EPC gives a current Energy Efficiency Rating: D and Environmental Impact Rating: E.
In the Borough of Islington, the house falls into Council Tax Band E (£1,891.85).
Over the past five years, the current owners have reconfigured the first-floor layout to add a new bathroom, fitted a new kitchen, renovated the lower-ground floor bathroom, updated the plumbing to a combi-boiler system, installed a new boiler, damp treated and replastered the kitchen walls and completely redecorated throughout, including repainting, recarpeting and refinishing the floors.

Full plans and permissions for the loft extension are also available on request.

We fell for this house as soon as we saw it. It’s full of character, with lovely, quirky period features. We love how light it is, looking out the back windows onto a large stretch of green, with gardens backing onto gardens. In the spring, tree blossoms fill the view from the master bedroom. It’s a wonderful, welcoming family home.

Travers Road is a quiet street—you mainly hear birdsong in the morning—but you can walk to Finsbury Park station in less than 10 minutes. Our local favourites are Girasole and Hana Sushi round the corner on Seven Sisters Road, and we also enjoy the shops and cafes on Holloway and Blackstock Roads. The area is developing quickly, but the street itself is full of people who have lived here for decades, and there’s a genuine sense of community.

Anyone with children will appreciate being a stone’s throw from the Sobell Leisure Centre, with its soft play, ice rink and trampoline park. And there’s a newly redeveloped playground three minutes’ walk from the house in Kinloch Gardens. Finsbury Park has a great playground, too, and we regularly visit Highbury Fields, Clissold Park, Woodberry Wetlands and Gillespie Park Nature Reserve.

2 Xi’an Impression

Directly across the road from the Emirates, this tiny unassuming little restaurant serves up a feast of probably the best Chinese in North London. Sharing dishes from Xi’an (best known as the home of the Terracotta Army) the menu spans rich combinations of spices and soft, fresh noodles, crispy fragrant dumplings and their own version of a burger which is more than delicious…but the noodles are definitely the star of the show. Really great value.

3 Green Room Café

Small yet excellent coffee shop serving coffee (of course), fresh juices, delicious toasties & pastries. The perfect pick-me-up on the way to work.
