An unassuming façade down a quiet street in Deptford conceals this exceptional flat with private roof terrace. Open, airy and bathed in sun from the terrace to the skylights, this flat is a study in contemporary calm.
Tanners Hill, Deptford, 1 Bed. Flat
Scandinavian cool meets zen-like tranquillity in this light-filled flat with private roof terrace in the heart of Deptford. A stripped-back, open-plan design seamlessly incorporates structural features—the exposed-brick fireplace and kitchen wall, the bare timber ceiling joists and the dramatic angles of the skylit eave in the sleeping loft—with pristine fittings and custom cabinetry. The entire space is a light trap, set off by crisp white walls and bleached Douglas fir floors. The shower room is a masterpiece of organic minimalism, sculpted from microcement and almost aglow from within. And of course, there’s the lush, southerly roof terrace, accessed through a clever pivoting window in the kitchen/dining area which benefits from underfloor heating. From the floorboards to the fixtures, every inch of this flat has been designed to preserve and enhance a sense of calm you can feel from the moment you set foot inside.
When you do decide to venture out, the whole of southeast London is on your doorstep. New Cross, Brockley and Peckham are all within reach—even Greenwich and its beautiful park are walkable. Deptford Bridge, with direct DLR service to the City, is just around the corner, with St Johns mainline and New Cross Overground stations easily accessible, too. Deptford Market Yard and Brockley Market provide ample and exciting local food, and the shops, pubs and restaurants along the High Street cover just about everything else.

THE OWNERS SAY
Our home has been a sanctuary for us. The light-filled, open-plan style makes it a perfect place to relax. The roof terrace benefits from sun all day and extends the living space outdoors. Aside from reading and sunbathing, we also managed to grow vegetables and herbs on the terrace.
From the flat, you can dive into bustling Deptford, with its great restaurants, pubs and bars, or go for a walk to the beautiful Hilly Fields park. If you like contemporary art, Goldsmiths CCA has an exciting program. Peckham isn’t far either. We spend every Saturday at the award-winning Brockley Market, shopping for fresh produce, nordic rye bread, pastries and flowers. You can grab a coffee from Browns of Brockley, too; best coffee in the neighbourhood!

Eating at Marcella is one of life's pleasures. They celebrate simple, delicious food and drink, focusing on the best seasonal Italian and British produce. This local free-house is a top-notch pub set within an incredible setting, inside and out. In 2009 Guy Awford and Jon Hallett took over and began lovingly transforming the space. On the ground floor, they have created a modern bar and dining area that overlooks a sunken garden. Meanwhile, the basement dining area, which opens into the terrace, is home to an open-plan kitchen, where you can see the chefs in action. The food is superb.
For the sustainably-minded, having a local refill shop is heaven-sent. You can get your everyday staples alongside a range of nice-to-haves such as make-up and packaging. Plus they stock a great array of gifts for all the loved ones in your life - dog toy anyone?
