BRICKWORKS SAYS
Step back in time and embrace coastal living at Cambridge House in Margate. This home's symmetry and architectural detailing have captivated passersby for generations. It is more than just a home; it's a piece of local history.
Entering the house on the raised ground floor, you are greeted by a spectacular entrance hall, where soaring 3.1-meter ceilings create immediate grandeur. Exposed wooden floors flow seamlessly throughout, adding warmth and practicality to the high-traffic living spaces. Sunlight streams through the box sash window of the principal living room, illuminating the ornate fireplace and creating a welcoming atmosphere. In the adjacent dining room, remnants of historic wallpaper and bespoke cabinetry add to the home's singular character. The kitchen continues the theme of elegant simplicity with bespoke carpentry and a fitted bench that is the focal point for morning catch ups and family meals.
The principal bedrooms are on the first floor. Our favourite is at the front. Glorious floor-to-ceiling sash windows flood the room with natural light, while bespoke cupboards flank the chimney breast to provide ample storage––it's a magical space. There are two additional bedrooms, both of which are comfortable doubles. The family bathroom has a deep bath, made for both kids' bath times and soothing soaks.
The gardens are on both sides of the house, with well-maintained lawns and planted borders offering tranquil escapes from the everyday. The right side includes a decked terrace––a seamless extension of the interior thanks to a clever window-to-door transformation. A driveway provides ample parking and leads to a handy garage at the rear of the property for storing a car, bikes or the stuff of life.
Sweyn Road's beachside location, just steps from Margate's vibrant Northdown Road, provides unbeatable convenience. Enjoy easy access to the seafront, Queens Promenade, and tidal pool, all just a short walk away. The area has a vast and ever-growing array of restaurants, shops, bars, and pubs, making it a wonderful place to live.
THE OWNERS SAY
We moved from London seven years ago with one child, and it's a decision we've never regretted. Since then, our family has grown by two more children, and this house has been an incredible home. Over the years, we've watched Margate transform and Cliftonville bloom into a vibrant community. The location couldn't be more perfect—just steps from the beach and the high street at the other end of the road, now buzzing with coffee shops, restaurants, and wine bars.
Despite our bustling household, the house always feels bright and spacious. The natural light streaming in from all four sides never fails to amaze us. The garden, a suntrap, has been a joy for summer gatherings and family time outdoors.
As a furniture designer, I've poured my creativity and care into the property, crafting bespoke cupboards, shutters, and even the kitchen to make it truly our own. Over the years, we've lovingly enhanced every corner of the house, turning it into a home that's both beautiful and functional—a space that has been a source of pride and countless cherished memories.
