BRICKWORKS SAYS
What lies behind the façade of this archetypal Georgian townhouse in Mile End is a wonderful surprise. Fresh, modern and pristine, the flat has been reimagined by the current owners to create the best of urban living with the building´s heritage in mind.
The living room centres around a cast-iron fireplace, but it’s the sensitively updated column radiators below shuttered sash windows that keep it feeling cosy. The kitchen upholds the flat’s history with a butler sink, which sits alongside a modern breakfast bar for socialising. Cool white is cohesive, amplifying light and radiating calm.
Gorgeous jade green tiles and brushed bronze fittings, including a rain shower, have brought the bathroom up to the latest style standards. The bedroom is a superb spot for getting away from it all, with windows on two sides looking out onto the landscaped garden. Take a seat in one of the two seating areas and enjoy being nestled amongst the cornucopia of mature plants that have taken root—a world away from the buzz just beyond your front door.
Rhondda Grove, in the Tredegar conservation area, has plenty of charm and yet is at the heart of the East End - just under a minute from the tube. The area is a blend of old and new, awash with classic London boozers sitting happily alongside brunch spots, wine bars and bakeries. If you’re looking for a different pace, head to the Mile End climbing wall and sauna or stroll along Regents Canal that runs from Little Venice to the Docklands.
THE OWNERS SAY
The flat is such a unique space. We’ve always wanted to live in a beautiful Georgian house and felt so lucky when we found our haven on Rhondda Grove. We spent a long time planning and designing the space, and we have had four beautiful years here. The garden is an oasis of calm, with birds chirping all year round. You’d never know you are moments from the tube.
The location is also perfect; it is close to Victoria Park but also right next to the tube station, with lots of lovely pubs and coffee shops. The street has a real community feel, part of the Tredegar conservation area with trees older than the houses.
We’re so sad to be leaving, but we hope someone else will be as happy as we have been.

landmarks
1 The Coffee Room
Just around the corner from Mile End Station, this very sweet little coffee shop is tiny inside but has a very cosy, heated outside courtyard thats very popular. Serving a very decent Climpson’s coffee, a great selection of yummy sandwiches(they even have sour dough bread) and seriously good cakes. The staff are always super friendly and welcoming.
2 The Palm Tree
A proper east end boozer, The Palm Tree pub is a much-loved gem set in the middle of Mile End Park next to the canal. With original trippy carpets, boxing memorabilia, walls plastered with pictures of celebrities gone by and an original old cash register, this cockney outpost is treasured for its 'knees-up' jazz nights which can often get lairy since there are no neighbours to consider.
3 Stepney City Farm
Much more than ‘just’ a city farm. It is set over 3 acres and offers opportunities to not only learn about animals but also lessons on growing healthy food, plus loads of great craft courses. Kids will love the petting area, but the delightful cafe serves delicious, crowd-pleasing food if rabbits and goats don’t float your boat.
4 The Camel Pub
Pubs don’t come more East End than this. Grab yourself a gourmet pie and mash and wash it down with some tasty ale, served by warm and welcoming staff. It’s a big hit with the locals, who’ll probably be more like friends by the end of the night.
5 Genesis Cinema
Independent, arthouse cinema showcasing a broad spectrum of film, from Hollywood to independents. There is a gallery space for local artists to hold exhibitions and the recent addition of a foyer cafe has added a welcoming touch.
