We renovated the house to be our family home and put a huge amount of thought and care into making somewhere that felt calm, warm and easy to live in. Our time here has been much shorter than we ever expected, as family circumstances are now taking us to Australia, and we're genuinely very sad to leave.

Having lived in the surrounding area for more than ten years, we've always chosen to stay because of the community. Fairfax Road in particular is a very special street – neighbours genuinely look out for one another, people are always willing to lend a hand and there's a lovely sense of community that we've felt very lucky to be part of.

The garden has been one of our favourite things about the house. It's large for London and has been brilliant for the children. We've put a lot of work into the planting and only wish we could see it next spring when everything has had more time to mature. And being able to see the city lights from the loft is an unexpected little treat.

More than anything, we hope the next owners love the house, the garden, the neighbours and this little corner of North London as much as we have.

BRICKWORKS SAYS

There is a real care in the way this house has been put together. The current owners have renovated it from Ley-wash floorboard to pristine rafter, paying close attention to every detail while creating a home that feels warm, calm and cohesive. Downstairs, the two reception rooms remain connected but distinct, giving you different places to be depending on the moment, before the house opens into the kitchen and dining space at the back. Pale cabinetry and dark, steel-look glazed doors give the room a crisp, contemporary feel, with the garden providing a verdant backdrop.

Upstairs, four bedrooms are arranged across two floors – three doubles and a single – alongside the family bathroom and a dedicated laundry space, with the washer and dryer tucked neatly away – a small detail that makes such a difference to everyday living. At the top of the house, the principal bedroom has its own en suite shower room, a cocoon of warm pinks and terracottas, with a skylight above the shower through which you can look up at the stars. Outside, the garden has been given the same care and attention, with a stone terrace giving way to lawn and newly planted borders. The planting is still young, but the groundwork is already there for something really special.

Green space is easy to come by, whichever direction you take. Fairland Park is on the doorstep, with swings and slides for little ones, while nearby Duckett’s Common has basketball courts and outdoor gym equipment for older children. A little further afield, Finsbury Park offers something different again, with its boating lake, café and popular Parkrun. For everything else, Green Lanes is close at hand, with independent restaurants, shops and pubs, while a choice of nearby stations and plentiful buses make getting across London a breeze.

Recent work:
The current owners have substantially refurbished the house, including a loft conversion, rewiring and re-plumbing, a new kitchen and bathroom, and the creation of a dedicated laundry area. All the windows have been replaced with timber sash windows, alongside new steel-look glazed doors opening onto the garden and a new front door. The owners tell us the works received planning permission and a building completion certificate. A new slate roof above the loft was completed in July 2026, along with a new gas boiler which has seven years remaining on its warranty.

Getting around:
Turnpike Lane (Piccadilly line, Zone 3) is around a six-minute walk away, while Hornsey station (Great Northern) is roughly 10 minutes on foot, with trains into Old Street and Moorgate. Green Lanes is also well served by buses, with direct routes to destinations including Stoke Newington, Angle and Tottenham Court Road.

Onward plans:
The owners are relocating to Australia and are therefore selling chain-free.

As the owners are moving overseas, all curtains and light fittings will be included in the sale. They are also open to separate discussions about including some of the furniture, appliances – including the washing machine and Miele dryer – and other decorative pieces.
